About Freshwater Farms of Ohio, Inc.
Freshwater Farms of Ohio was the first commercial indoor RAS raising rainbow trout in the world, and is now the longest operating RAS operation in the US. Economically raised from eggs in re-purposed and solar-heated poultry buildings since 1986, grown to market size indoors and in gravel quarry lakes, all trout are then processed onsite in HAACP facilities (since 1993) with FDA and State of Ohio Ag inspection. Clean Water and Clean Feed makes for Clean Fish at Freshwater Farms. As a part of our eco-friendly facility, we reutilize outflow water for irrigation of vegetable produce and flower crops growing in our RAINBOW project (Reutilizing And Intergrating Nutrient Byproducts Of Wastewater). Freshwater Farms has prior experience selling wholesale to 40+ accounts for 16 years, although since 2010, 95% of sales have been local from the farm retail market. Expansion of production is underway to allow more off-farm sales in the near future.
